Twitter's board met Elon Musk over the weekend to explore his $43bn takeover offer for the social media platform. After Musk first revealed his bid, Twitter's management announced a so-called 'poison pill' strategy to fend off any potential hostile buyout. Musk plans to finance the bid with backing of US lender Morgan Stanley and other financial institutions. Details were disclosed to US regulators on Thursday and made Twitter's 11-member board reconsider a possible deal. Musk, who owns a more than 9% stake in Twitter, has lined up a $46.5bn financing package for his bid, according to a regulatory filing. Funding will come from a mixture of his own assets and the backing of Wall Street banking giant Morgan Stanley along with other firms.

A California father-of-seven says he was beaten-up by grocery store staff after making a sarcastic remark about the length of a checkout line, leaving him with a concussion and deep cut. John Valencia was filmed scuffling with staff at Stater Brothers in San Bernardino on April 20, but said the violence escalated in a private store closet. He told Fox13 that the incident began when he went to pick up a coffee, only to be confronted with a long checkout line for a single cash register. Valencia says he asked a manager to open another, only to be ignored. When he told the manager 'great customer service,' in what he insists was a non-aggressive manner, he said the staffer asked him to leave. But Valencia's ordeal escalated into violence as he walked out, when he said he was dragged into a closet by at least two grocery store workers and beaten.

The former US president previously claimed the actions of both the Duke and Duchess of Sussex caused pain to the monarch. It comes after the royal couple flew from their home in the US and stopped off in England to visit the Queen before heading to The Hague in the Netherlands for the Invictus Games. Their attendance at a reception at the games marked their first public appearance together in Europe since quitting as senior working royals more than two years ago. Skydiving cousins Luke Aikins, 48, and Andy Farrington, 39, attempted to make the first-ever dual skydive into separate airplanes but it all ended in failure. Just as both skydivers attempted to switch, one of the planes lost control and ended up crashing into the Arizona desert floor 12,000 feet below. Aikins was able to successfully get into the other plane, but Farrington couldn't make it and ended up parachuting to safety. The FAA also said that it never gave permission for the stunt to take place citing safety concerns and will now be investigating the crash.

Osama bin Laden planned a second attack against the U.S. shortly after 9/11. He wanted to derail the nation's trains by removing 40 feet of track. 'Rather than hijack a plane, operatives should charter one for their next attack on the U.S. And adds if that's too difficult, they should target U.S. railways,' bin Laden wrote in a letter to he head of al Qaeda's international terror unit. He also suggested Al Qaeda operatives could charter a plane for an air attack. Bin Laden also devised an attack on crude oil tankers and major shipping routes in the Middle East and Africa. His plans were detailed in files seized from the compound where he was slain. None of these plots were executed.

Amazon's second-headquarters in Virginia will feature a unique helix-shaped tower complete with an outdoor 'mountain' that visitors can hike at weekends. Arlington County Board gave unanimous approval for the 350 foot-tall building on Saturday. It will sit as the centerpiece of Amazon's new campus just across the River Potomac from Washington DC. Because skyscrapers are banned in the District of Columbia, and the Amazon buildings will be among the tallest in Arlington County. From some vantage points the helix will dominate the region´s skyline like no building other than the Washington Monument. The helix features a spiral-hike around its exterior, complete with trees, and will let visitors follow a winding outdoor ramp around the edge of the building to its summit.

But officials in Washington believed that sanctioning Kabaeva would be such a 'personal' attack on Putin that tensions between Russia and the west could escalate even further. She is said to have borne three children to the Russian leader, and grown wealthy thanks to her links to him - meaning she was a prime target for US sanctions after Putin invaded Ukraine in February. The lack of sanctions are despite the belief that American officials believe Kabaeva has a hand in hiding Putin's wealth overseas. Government officials told the Wall Street Journal she remains a potential target of sanctions.

Gretchen Felker-Martin's book Manhunt features characters hunting TERFS - trans-exclusionary radical feminists, a term some call Miss Rowling. The Harry Potter author has faced death threats for her views on trans issues. NPR published a glowing review of the novel but it is now coming under fire as a result.

A 31-year-old member New York City's bravest was killed in the line of duty two years after he eulogized a fallen comrade who was killed in similarly tragic circumstances. Timothy Klein died on the afternoon of April 22 while battling a blaze that engulfed two attached houses in Brooklyn's Canarsie neighborhood, according to a statement from the FDNY. A civilian was also killed during the incident while eight other firefighters were injured. Klein was a second-generation member of New York City's bravest. His father is retired FDNY hero Patrick Klein. In addition to his father, Timothy Klein is survived by his mother, Diana, and his three sisters.

The contents of two secret rooms barricaded by a fake bookshelf inside a seemingly normal suburban home have been exposed. Extraordinary photos have revealed how cocaine smugglers used an electric door disguised as a bookshelf to hide an extraordinary stash of illicit drugs. The $1.6million home in Sylvania, in Sydney's south, was seized on Friday following a raid that uncovered cocaine, cash, cannabis and imitation weapons. The five-bedroom property was searched by the Australian Federal Police in April of 2017 as part of an investigation into a Colombian organised crime group. When officers entered the home they were confronted with a seemingly ordinary bookshelf crowded with books including a series of Lonely Planet travel guides. The electric door was used to conceal two window-less rooms stuffed with ordinary junk as well as illicit drugs.

Alec Baldwin just can't catch a break. The actor, 64, was spotted getting a parking ticket in East Hampton, New York over the weekend. Baldwin and his wife Hilaria, 38, who is pregnant with their seventh child, have been seen in the upscale Long Island community - where the two own a home - several times since he has come under fire for shooting cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of his western film, Rust, last October. The actor, who was out for lunch Saturday, returned to his vehicle to find the dreaded bright yellow parking ticket on his windshield. He grabs it, gets into his car and looks at it before driving away. The parking ticket comes just days after Alec said he was exonerated over Halyna Hutchins' death in a new report Wednesday that blasted producers of the film. The actor issued the statement shortly after New Mexican Occupational Health and Safety Bureau officials levied the maximum fine against the producers of Rust, the film on which Hutchins was shot and killed by Baldwin in October 2021.
